Our productsSplotter has three core activities:Games for gamersSplotter started as a hobby - we simply love to design and make games, and it seemed like a waste not to publish them. We make a wide range of games: from very simple games taking about ten minutes to play (Oraklos, Kiek), and average games taking about one hour (Cannes, D'raf, VOC, Web), to highly complex games which take up three to four hours or more (Roads & Boats, Ur, 1830 BC). Most games are intended for ages twelve and up, though some can be played with younger children. As we tend to sell out games faster than we can replete our stocks, we tend to have available only a limited subset of our games at any one time.
Games for special occasionsGames are an ideal way to communicate: a good game gets played over and over again, so that there is ample opportunity to bring across the message. A well-designed mechanism of play can simulate an actual situation and allow players to actually experience part of the message. For example, we designed Spöl for the city of Enschede. Spöl is a card game highlighting how the city government and its citizens cooperate to improve living and working conditions in that town. The cards illustrate different projects the city government is initiating, while the mechanism of play forces people to cooperate and think about the best allocation of resources. If this is too involved (designing a game takes time and is rather costly), we also have a number of games designed especially for flexible promotion purposes.
